The S.H.I.F.T. Project Byron Inc
Welcome to The S.H.I.F.T. Project Byron,
This Website is currently under construction. The pages below will give you an overview of our Project....however, so much more has happened and we are building a website that will tell you more about us and all we are doing. Stay tuned........
The S.H.I.F.T. Project, Bryon is a residential transition program for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The purpose of The S.H.I.F.T. Project, Bryon, is to provide educational
programs within a supported stable housing environment for women to shift
from disadvantage to confidence and a motivation for well-being.
Our vision is by 2020, we will have a self-sustaining, integrative community of women within the Byron region who have transitioned out of disadvantage.
The ongoing 3 month curriculum will cover topics such as physical well being,
communication skills, social networking, relationship building and practical
general skills that underpin living effectively within community.
The S.H.I.F.T. Project has a reciprocal focus in that the residents offer their assistance to the community in volunteer work within the Byron region whilst members of the community support the establishment and continuity of the project. Residents are required to engage in a variety of local community initiatives which will broaden their practical skills and assist in learning independence and sustainable living. The aim is to provide participants the experience of being valued by others and in turn begin to value themselves.
The S.H.I.F.T. Project is a not for profit, non-government funded program that
is community based and supported by voluntary members. A team of
qualified professionals manage the day to day operation of the program. This
approach has been adopted due to the ongoing cuts in funding that resulted in
the loss of services within the region. A local benefactor has generously
offered a three bedroom house for long-term use as the residential base for
the Project. The house has been furnished and is maintained via donations
and community participation.
The acronym S.H.I.F.T. stands for.....
Providing a safe and sustainable housing environment for residents to reset their living circumstances. Building networks and resources within the community, and encouraging past participants to support current residents
Having an emphasis on physical and emotional well being to ensure interruption of limiting mindsets and behaviours.
Supported by the wider community while participants integrate into society and build resources to break the homelessness cycle.
We utilise a variety of existing Byron community projects to provide an environment for participants to learn new skills and give back to the community. By building reciprocal relationships between participants and community, the opportunity to experience making a difference with actions, becomes learnt.
Each participant will have measurable goals and outcomes potentially building a sense of achievement and supporting a focused attention on self and other.
Providing a stable environment for participants to learn and understand the transitions in life and thereby supporting movement from instability to living a healthy self sustaining life
